Concerts 11/12 Germany
The third and last concert of the series chamber music by country makes a journey through Germany. The work of Hans Werner Henzeis clearly expressionistic, a style in which harmonic and melodic structures converse with the listener. The Kammersonate and the First Violin Concerto are both virtuosic and expressive giving voice to a world that is attempt to rebuild itself after the 2nd World War. The Brettl Lieder of Arnold Schoenberg are in great contrast to this mood. Written in Schoenberg’s late romantic style of his early period this song cycle expresses lighthearted flirtatious moods of the early 20th century, a stark contrast with the rude awakening that swept over Europe after the World Wars.
