Mahler’s late romantic work is placed over against Schoenberg’s String Trio, a delirium in sound after Schoenberg’s near death experience. Träume am Kamin of Max Reger by extension dreams quite another delirium. The visionary Sonatine Seconda by Feruccio Busoni and works of Berg and Rihm add context to Schoenberg’s musical world.
